A Level French

  • This subject will help you to develop an understanding of the French language in a variety of contexts and genres
  • You will develop the ability to communicate confidently and effectively in French in both speech and writing.
  • You will learn about the contemporary society, cultural background and heritage of France and communities where French is spoken.
  • You will experience real French life during a penpal exchange trip to Doullens, Picardie.

A Level French

This subject is a must for pupils who derive enjoyment and benefit from learning a language.

Through studying GCE French, students have opportunities to:

  • Develop an understanding of the language in a variety of contexts and genres;

  • Communicate confidently, clearly effectively in the language for a range of purposes;

  • Develop awareness and understanding of the contemporary society, cultural background and heritage of countries or communities where French is spoken and ;

  • Consider their study of the language in a broader context.

Course Units - 2 at AS / 2 at A2

  • AS1: Speaking - This unit consists of two elements:
    • Q1: Presentation
    • Q2: Conversation
    • These tasks are Externally conducted and assessed
  • AS2: Listening, Reading and Writing - This unit consists of three elements:
    • Section A: Listening
    • Section B: Reading and translation (French to English)
    • Section C: Writing

There are also two units at A2.

A Level French

This qualification requires pupils to have:

7 GCSEs A*-C - including English and Mathematics.
7 GCSEs A*-C - including English, Maths and French GCSE at grade B or above.
